| Quick Hits: Steelers Season Outlook | |
What do the reigning Super Bowl champions have in store for an encore? To think of the run they made with Willie Parker and Rashad Mendenhall both being injuried for the most important of that run is quite scary. With those two running backs healthy, there is no reason to think that the Steelers cannot make another run at a Super Bowl. The offense is as balanced as it gets, especially when Willie Parker is able to do what he does best, and that’s get to the outside and turn on the jets. With Hard, Holmes, and Washington as the top three receivers, the Steelers have plenty of options when it comes to creating packages to put certain players on the field to control what the opposing defense can and cannot do. If Limas Sweed can continue to improve his game, that three-headed monster then turns into a quad of talented receivers and this offense will be close to unstoppable. Defensively, we all know what the Steelers are about. There are so many playmakers all over the field that there isn’t really a weakness to key in on for the opposing offense. They are fast and tough and on top of all of that, they are smart defenders. When you have so much talent, the players are able to take risks that most teams cannot do, because they don’t have much to worry about knowing that if the risk doesn’t work into their favor, the other 10 guys on the field are in place to minimize the hole that was created. When you have safeties and linebackers that are able to freelance because the defensive line and cornerbacks are more than good enough to do the job alone, it makes life a living hell for the opposing quarterback and offensive coordinators. | Out on a High Note | |
In what might have been Bill Cower’s last game as the Steelers head coach the Steeler defeated the Cinncinatti Bengals in over-time with a 67 yard TD pass from Ben Roethlisberger to Santonio Holmes. Willie Parker had over 130 rushing yards and two touchdowns. He also had one very costly fumble. He was about to go into the endzone to complete a 99 yard drive when he fumble at the one. QB Ben Roethlisberger had one touchdown, the game-winner and one INT. On defense Ike Taylor led the team with six tackles after starting again after being benched mid-season. The team had no sacks or turn-overs, but played a very good game, holding the Bengals to only 17 points. Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »

| Steelers Eliminated | |
With Sunday’s 31-7 loss to the Baltimore Ravens the Pittburgh Steelers fell to 7-8 and are officially eliminated from playoff contention. The way the went out summed up their whole season, however, they turned the ball over various times and coudn’t score points off of turn-overs. Quarterback ben Roethlisberger threw two interceptions. His lone touchdown came on a one-yard pass to tight-end Heath Miller just befor half-time. Then just when it looked like the steeler could make the game close Willie Parker fumbled the ball away at the two yard-line. The Steelers defense gave the offense a chance to stay in the game with two interceptions and one fumble recovery. Cornerback Bryant McFadded had one of the INTs and the fumble recovery. The Steelers other corner Deshea Townsend had the other INT. The Steeler had trouble getting pressure on McNair all day, the Steelers didn’t have any sacks on the game and that gave McNair the time he needed to make all the throws. Two of Steve McNair’s three touchdowns came on deep passes where Pro-Bowl safety Troy Polomalu was beat. Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »
